Ads for iPhone-ized Web Pages
The web browsing capability of the iPhone is a marvelous thing. Its ability to browse web content formatted for big screens is good beyond my wildest expectations. That said, web content specialized for the iPhone’s screen size and quirks (e.g., no copy/cut/paste) can lead to a superior user experience. See digg’s iPhone interface for a good example of what I’m talking about.
The same is true of ads. Traditional big-screen ad units don’t necessarily translate well to iPhone.
At AdMob we think a lot about ad user experience on small screens. In addition to the hundreds of small-screen devices on which we already deliver a tailored ad experience, we’ve started experimenting with a special ad unit specialized for the iPhone browsing experience. Donnie Flood, one of our senior engineers, presented a demo of this new ad unit at Mobile Monday this week.
I’m a bit biased, but this is cool stuff.
